RD-800 Real-time Distributed Supervisory Control System

Introduction

RD-800 is a SCADA/EMS system based on RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) engineering workstations. It adopts distributed processing scheme to link multiple computers with special functions through LAN (Local Area Network). Its main characteristics are open system configuration, strong hardware compatibility, excellent software portability, and rich application functions. It is able to interconnect with other computer systems such as power plant unit distributed control system (DCS) to exchange real-time information, communicate with management information system (MIS), and can support various hardware platform of different manufactures.

This system passed appraisal in 1993, achieved State Science and Technology Progress Award (third-class) in 1996, and was listed in National Torch Program. It is suitable for local and county level power dispatching center as dispatch automation system, or to be used as supervisory control system in centralized control station or major substation. Currently there are some 200 systems in operation at local, county, district dispatch centers, power plants, and substations.

Functions

  • System hardware platform: select high performance/cost ratio RISC workstation. Backbone network adopts IEEE 802.3 single/dual sharing/switching Ethernet.
  • System software environment (platform): select UNIX operating system with self-developed database management system. Graphic scenario adopts X-Windows. Convenient and practical graphic software package, report software package, and a series of software tools are developed based on X-Windows. Graphic database maintenance interface makes the MMI of the entire system extremely friendly.
  • Network communication protocol adopts TCP/IP and supports Internet and WEB technique.
  • RTU data acquisition subsystem adopts SCADA server + Ethernet + terminal server + switch-able digital/analog channel, supports network RTU acquisition and dedicated digital/analog channel acquisition, and redundant acquisition port switching.
  • RTU data acquisition protocol: Support network-RTU IEC 60870-5-104, DNP 3.0 protocol. Support RTU protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101, N4F, SC1801, and CDT, etc., as well as user defined protocols.
  • Besides common SCADA functions, it also supports graphic dynamic coloring to facilitate operator's monitoring of system operation.
  • Line based Post Disturbance Review (PDR) to facilitate operator's fault analysis.
  • Telecontrol operation has network supervisor function.
  • Support WEB browser. Graphics and reports on RD-800 workstation can be browsed by PC through WEB browser.

Engineering Application

RD-800 system has been successfully put into service in more than two hundred power dispatch centers, substations and large enterprises.
