ISA-300 Substation Automation System Introduction
ISA-300 is a new generation substation automation system integrating the function of protection and measurement and control. This system is composed of relay protection unit, measurement and control unit, communication unit and background supervisory system. It can be separated into three levels: substation level, communication level, and bay level. ISA-300 is applicable for substation, terminal station and rural power network of various voltage levels.

Features
- All relay protection devices and measurement and control devices are bay units. They could operate with long-term stability in severe environment. In bay level the protection and measurement control are separated for transformer and high voltage lines, but integrated for low voltage system, to reduce the repeated equipment and simplify designs. All distributed bay units are designed and organized according to primary equipment. Two configuration methods can be adopted for these units: centralized (deferent function unit is centralized into one panel in the control room); decentralized (deferent function unit is configured in the switch cabinet).
- Can bus with standard protocols of the electric power industry is adopted by communication level, otherwise some special protocols of other manufacture is taken into account. Not only can the communication level communicate with ISA300 products, it also can connect with other series products, such as microcomputer DC panel, electronic meter, protection and supervisory system of other manufacture .
- Communication management unit ISA301 as the communication hub achieves the communication with ISA300 series bay units, remote dispatching center, electronic meter, microcomputer DC panel, background supervising system, and other intelligent devices.
- Communication management unit supports various protocols, such as the industry issued CDT, expansion CDT, SC1801, IEC870-5-101, DNP3.0, ISA, etc . Profiting form the CAN field bus the communication network is reliable, economical, and convenient.
- Station level includes telecontrol and background supervising system, can communicate with three dispatching centers or controlled stations with different protocols at one time.
- The background supervising system provides functions of display, report, control etc; and setting management and fault recording are provided by protection engineer station.
- Protection engineer station parallel installed with background supervising system exchanges data with protection devices by communication management unit. It fulfills the protection setting's query, modification, statistics, and the event query, signal restoration of the protection device.
- The fault recorder wave used to analyze the action behavior of the protection device can be displayed in protection engineer station. Recording program running offline adopts spine interpolation algorithm for waveform fit, the fitting accuracy is very high. The pressure of communication transfer when faults take place is relieved by actively calling up the fault recorder data after the accident.
